Charmed Materials

All magic requires material components harvested from the central plateau. Charmed components are naturally occurring, inorganic materials such as stone, coal, sulphur, iron or copper, etc. that have been slightly altered and can only be found on the central plateau. The harvesting, sale, and distribution of Charmed materials is highly regulated, and magic users themselves are required to be licensed. There are rumors of a black market where the unscrupulous go to avoid sensible oversight, but everyone knows magic is a beneficial tool that should be used for the greater good.

Metamagic

Metamagic requires the use of an organic, rather than inorganic, Charmed material also harvested from the central plateau. Various woods, plants, even bones allow a talented practitioner to alter spells with a variety of effects.

Higher Level Spells and Cantrips

Spells that can be cast at a higher level, including cantrips that increase in power, require a higher quality Charmed material component.

Magic Items

The creation of any magic item, including potions, requires a Charmed material ingredient. Anyone crafting a magic item is required to be properly licensed and expected to acquire any necessary Charmed materials from a licensed dealer.
